What going to Japan as an SSW worker costs
The Specified Skilled Worker (SSW) route has more steps paid by the worker than EPS, and some of them depend on your employer and agency:
- Tests. The JFT-Basic (or another accepted Japanese test) and the skills test for your industry, both booked through Prometric. The fee is shown when you book.
- Documents. A passport if you do not have one.
- Health. A medical check-up for your visa and labour permit.
- Before departure. Pre-departure orientation, insurance and the welfare fund, and the labour permit from the Department of Foreign Employment.
- Travel. The flight, and travel and stay for tests and paperwork.
Language classes are optional, though most SSW candidates study at an institute to pass the JFT-Basic.
Agencies and who pays
Many SSW workers go through an agency. Use only agencies licensed by Nepal's Department of Foreign Employment, and get every fee in writing with a receipt. Who pays the air ticket and other costs depends on your employer and contract, so ask before you sign.
Using the planner
Enter the amount for each cost from the booking screen, your notice or your receipt. The planner adds them up, shows what you have paid and what is left, and keeps it on your device only.
